Description:

The fruits are apple-like, ranging from spherical to ellipsoidal in shape, firm, and wrinkled; they measure 6–14 mm in length and 5–11 mm in width, with a ring-like rim at the top formed by withered sepals. The pulp contains 1–5 woody pits that are irregularly triangular, oval, or laterally compressed in shape. The surface of the pits is pitted-wrinkled or furrowed along the back. Fruit color ranges from yellow-orange and brownish-red to dark brown or black, sometimes with a whitish coating of crystallized sugar. Odorless. The taste of an aqueous infusion is sweetish. Hawthorn fruits contain flavonoids, organic acids, carotenoids, tannins, fatty oils, pectins, triterpene saponins, beta-sitosterol, choline, sugars, vitamins, and other biologically active substances.

Indications for use:

A decoction of hawthorn fruits is used in the combination therapy of functional cardiovascular disorders (neurocirculatory dystonia, cardialgia).

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the product, pregnancy (1st trimester), children under 12 years of age.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding:

Use of the product is contraindicated during the first trimester of pregnancy. Use during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy and during breastfeeding is permissible if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus and child. Consultation with a physician is required.
