Description:

A mixture of bark pieces of various shapes. The color of the outer surface of the bark is dark brown, greyish-brown, dark grey, or grey; the inner surface is yellowish-orange or reddish-brown. Odor is faint. The taste of the aqueous extract is bitter. Buckthorn bark decoction has a laxative effect due to the presence of anthraglycosides, which irritate the receptors of the large intestine mucosa. The laxative effect usually occurs 8–12 hours after taking the medication.

Composition:

Alder buckthorn bark. Buckthorn bark contains anthraglycosides (frangulin, glucofrangulin, frangulashmodin), chrysophanic acid, tannins, organic acids, essential oil, sugars, alkaloids, and other biologically active substances.

Indications for use:

Chronic constipation.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to the drug, constipation of neurogenic and endocrine origin, spastic constipation, intestinal obstruction, acute abdomen syndrome, appendicitis, enteritis, colitis, metrorrhagia, acute febrile conditions. Pregnancy, breastfeeding period, children under 12 years of age.
