Description:
A mixture of bark pieces of various shapes. The outer side of the bark is dark brown, gray-brown, dark gray, or gray, while the inner side is yellowish-orange or reddish-brown. The smell is faint. The taste of the aqueous extract is bitter. Buckthorn bark contains anthraglycosides and other biologically active substances.

Pharmacotherapeutic group:
Herbal laxative.
Pharmacological action:
Decoction of buckthorn bark has a laxative effect due to the presence of anthraglycosides, which irritate the receptors of the large intestine's mucous membrane. The laxative effect usually occurs 8-12 hours after taking the drug.
Indications for use:
Chronic constipation.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to the drug; constipation of neurogenic and endocrine origin, spastic constipation, intestinal obstruction, acute abdomen syndrome, appendicitis, enteritis, colitis, metrorrhagia, acute febrile conditions; pregnancy, breastfeeding period, children under 12 years of age.
The drug is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
